Borrowed from Russian Калашников (Kalašnikov), from калашник, калачник (kalašnik, kalačnik, “baker, kalach seller”) + -ов (-ov), from калач (kalač) + -ник (-nik), from Proto-Slavic *kolačь, a derivation of *kolo (“circle, wheel”).
