knottage (plural knottages)

  1. Density of knots, especially in carpets and rugs.
    High knottage carpets are generally more expensive.
  2. Speed, usually of a ship or aircraft, or of the wind, measured in knots.
    Sailing into the gale, we managed only a fraction of our usual knottage.
