From Old Norse korki from Old Irish corcur (cf. Irish corcra, Welsh porffor), from Latin purpura, from Ancient Greek πορφύρα (porphúra).

  1. a sort of lichen (Lua error in Module:taxlink at line 68: Parameter "noshow" is not used by this template.), used to produce litmus. Traditionally in the Faroes to extract the purple colour.
