From Proto-Bahnaric *krɔːŋ, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ruŋ ~ ruuŋ ~ ruəŋ (river); cognate with Halang kroang, Eastern Mnong krông, Vietnamese sông, Mon ကြုၚ် (krɜŋ).
