Etymology[edit]

From Old Swedish kviker, kvikker, from Old Norse kvikr (whence also Norwegian kvik and kvikk, Icelandic and Faeroese kvikur), from Proto-Germanic *kwikwaz, whence also English quick. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *gʷih₃wós ‎(alive).
