Pronunciation

Noun

lācene f (5th declension)

  1. female bear, she-bear
lācene ar lācēniema she-bear with cubs
Declension

Etymology 2

Lācenes (2)

Apparently from lācis just like the term for a female bear. This could be further supported by the fact that LĒL lists two (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Livonian terms for cloudberry, kurgmōŗa (literally crane berry) and okšmōŗa (literally bear berry), with the latter proscribed,[1] which would suggest it is a calque from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latvian.

Noun

lācene f (5th declension)

  1. cloudberry, sp. Rubus chamaemorus; a cloudberry plant; a fruit of a cloudberry plant
