Etymology

From Hindi लंगर (laṅgar), (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Punjabi ਲੰਗਰ (laṅgar, “public kitchen, almshouse”), and their source, Persian لنگر (“public eating-place attached to Sufi shrine”). Doublet of anchor.
