From Proto-Philippine *lamʀam (“vermin”). Compare Ilocano langgam (“bird”), Hanunoo langgam (“millepede”), Calamian Tagbanwa lamlam (“bird”), Bikol Central gamgam (“bird”), Aklanon eanggam (“rat”), Cebuano langgam (“bird”), Western Bukidnon Manobo langgam (“any non-human creature”), and Binukid langgam (“wild beast”).
