Catalan[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From the verb llampar, from Late Latin lampō, lampāre; alternatively perhaps from a Vulgar Latin *lampu (compare Occitan lamp, Italian lampo), from Latin lampas[1].
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
llamp m (plural llamps)
- lightning
- Synonym: llampec
- 2019 June 29, Carles Geli, “Irene Solà: “L’art m’ha donat irreverència, un punt de bogeria literària””, in El País[1]:
- Per això volia contar el primer capítol des de la perspectiva dels núvols: una mort per llamp vista des de dalt, com un contrapicat. Igual que un accident de caça és explicat pel cabirol no caçat.
- That's why I wanted to tell the first chapter from the perspective of the clouds: a death by lightning seen from above, like a sting. Like a hunting accident explained by the uncaught roe deer.
