[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Romani lubni (“whore, prostitute”),[1] which is ultimately a derivative of Sanskrit लुभ् (lubh, “to desire, covet”).[2] The Romani word is borrowed into the slang of other languages: Greek λουμπινί (loumpiní, “the secret language of effeminate gay men and prostitutes”), λουμπίνα (loumpína, “a passive homosexual”), λούμπεν (loúmpen, “a passive homosexual”), Czech lubňa (“prostitute”), Spanish lumi (“slut”).
