Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Galician-Portuguese marfil, almafi, almafil, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Arabic عَظْم اَلْفِيل (ʕaẓm al-fīl, elephant-bone), from عَظْم (ʕaẓm, bone) + فِيل (fīl, elephant). Compare Galician, Spanish and Catalan marfil.
