From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French materas, probably from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Italian materasso (perhaps via (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Frankish), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Arabic مَطْرَح (maṭraḥ, carpet, place where something is thrown), from طَرَحَ (ṭaraḥa, to throw).
