Inherited from Old Catalan mirall~mirayl, from Vulgar Latin *mīrāclum (mirror), derived from Latin mīrārī (look at). By surface analysis, mirar +‎ -all. Compare Occitan miralh, Old French mirail. Morphological doublet of miracle, a borrowing from Latin.
