[edit]Inherited from Old Catalan mirall~mirayl, from Vulgar Latin *mīrāclum (“mirror”), derived from Latin mīrārī (“look at”). By surface analysis, mirar + -all. Compare Occitan miralh, Old French mirail. Morphological doublet of miracle, a borrowing from Latin.
