From North Sea Germanic *miskōjan (transferred into weak class II), from Proto-Germanic *miskijaną, from Proto-Indo-European *meyḱ- (to knead; mix). Cognate with Old Frisian *miskia, Old Saxon *miskon, and Old High German misken, also Latin misceō.
