From Old Frisian misdēd (misdeed), from Proto-Germanic *missadēdiz < *missa- (mis-) + *dēdiz (deed, act), equivalent to mis- +‎ died. Cognate with English misdeed, Dutch misdaad, German Missetat, Danish misdåd.
