Identification of parasiloxanthin and its derivative 7,8-dihydroparasiloxanthin, as well as 3'-epilutein and monadoxanthin, are worthy of notice. These carotenoids, except for 3'-epilutein, have hitherto been found in few species and only on the Japanese islands.
    • 2012, Vladimir S. Saakov, ‎Valery Z. Drapkin, ‎Alexander I. Krivchenko, Derivative Spectrophotometry and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) Spectroscopy for Ecological and Biological Questions (page 266)
Monadoxanthin, losing one hydroxyl group, turns into crocoxanthin (one hydroxyl and acetylene bond). The product of reduction of crocoxanthin was not found, and it is a problem for further research []
