- Hyphenation: moot‧to‧ri‧lii‧ken‧ne‧ti‧e
- An expressway (US), dual carriageway (UK), divided highway (Canada) (road designated for motor traffic only, but with lower technical standard than a motorway).
The exact definition of expressway varies by country. In Finland a moottoriliikennetie is a highway with access limited to same class of motor vehicles as in the case of moottoritie (“motorway”), that is vehicles constructed for speeds 40 km/h or higher. The technical standard of the road does not reach the qualifications of a motorway in some respect. The separation between directions may be missing, there may not be continuous multiple lanes to each direction or the shoulders may be too narrow.
