Neapolitan

Etymology

From Arabic بَاذِنْجَان (bāḏinjān), from now archaic Persian بادنگان (bâdengân), from Sanskrit भण्डाकी (bhaṇḍākī, aubergine), reshaped under the influence of mela (apple). (melingian > meligniana > mulignana) Compare Greek μελιτζάνα (melitzána), Sicilian milinciana and Medieval Latin mēlongēna.
