From German Muskat, from Old French noix muscat, from Medieval Latin muscata (nutmeg), from Ancient Greek μόσχος (móskhos, musk), from Middle Persian *mušk; ultimately from Sanskrit मुष्क (muṣka, testicle), the shape of the gland being similar.
