Etymology
Compound of neu (“new”) + gierig (“greedy”), but originally neusgierig with an adverbial genitive. A Middle Low German formation that replaced older Middle High German niugerne. Compare Dutch nieuwsgierig and Norwegian Bokmål nysgjerrig.
