From Ancient Greek νεῦρον ‎(neûron, sinew, tendon) and Latin toxicum ‎(poison), from Ancient Greek τοξικόν ‎(toxikón, (poison) for use on arrows), from τοξικός ‎(toxikós, pertaining to arrows or archery), from τόξον ‎(tóxon, bow).
