Hungarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finno-Ugric *ńuŋɜ- ‎(to rest, relax)[1][2] +‎ -szik. The nyug- ‎(to keep quiet) stem was revived during the Hungarian language reform in the 18th–19th centuries and used in several compound words. See nyugágy ‎(deckchair), nyugdíj ‎(pension).[3]
