Borrowed from Spanish olivo (olive tree), from Vulgar Latin *olīvus, from Latin olīva, olīvum, from Etruscan *𐌄𐌋𐌄𐌉𐌅𐌀 (*eleiva) or from Pre-Classical Ancient Greek *ἐλαίϝα (*elaíwa). Doublet of oliba.
