Etymology

Derived from Italian onda (wave), or possibly inherited from Vulgar Latin *undizāre, from Latin unda (wave). Cognate to Romanian undeza; cf. also French ondoyer, Spanish and Portuguese ondear, Catalan and Occitan ondejar.
