Finnish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
oppi + arvo. Coined by Finnish journalist and lecturer Rietrik Polén.
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
oppiarvo
- A degree, as an award bestowed by a university or a college as an indication of academic achievement (an honorary degree is referred to as arvo).
Usage notes[edit]
In everyday usage tutkinto is normally used instead of oppiarvo. For practical purposes the difference is insignificant, since obtaining an oppiarvo is the direct result of accomplishing everything that is required for a tutkinto.
