Borrowed from French orchestre, from Latin orchēstra, from Ancient Greek ὀρχήστρα (orkhḗstra), from ὀρχοῦμαι (orkhoûmai, to dance) (an intensification of ἔρχομαι (érkhomai, to go, come), from Proto-Indo-European *ergh- (to set in motion, stir up, raise)) + suffix *-tra denoting "place".
