Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Latin pavīmentum (“floor composed of small stones beaten down”), possibly through attested Vulgar Latin paumentum.[1] Compare Italian pavimento, Aromanian pimintu, Logudorese Sardinian pamentu (“floor”), pomentu, Friulian palment. Doublet of paviment.
