Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish پرمقجی (parmakcı, “turner of rails or spokes”), equivalent to parmak (“finger; rail, spoke of a wheel”) + -çı.

- maker of rails, bannisters or fences
- (figuratively) provoker, agitator
