First attested in English in 1913 or prior: from scientific (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin pars distālis, from classical (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin pars (part) + post-classical (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin distālis (~distant).[1]
