Albanian

Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *po/ait- (gown, cloak), an enlargement with the suffix -kë. Cognate with Gothic 𐍀𐌰𐌹𐌳𐌰 (paida, tunic, shirt) and Ancient Greek βαίτε (baíte). A loanword from Gothic is also phonetically possible. Orel considers it a derivation from petë, reconstructing Proto-Albanian *patika.[1]

Noun

petk f

  1. gown, garment, dress, suit
