Etymology[edit]

Coined by Brazilian journalist and columnist Reinaldo Azevedo around 2006 blending petista +‎ metralha, in reference to "Irmãos Metralha".[1] The term is also commonly analysed as a blend of petista +‎ tralha (junk).
