Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Inuit *piviɣ (time or place), from Proto-Eskimo *piviɣ (direction, time or place for something). Compare piffissaq (time). Probably formed from the prefix pi (meaningless prefix) and suffix -vik (time or place).
