[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *pilˀtei, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pleh₁- (“to fill”).[1] Cognate with Lithuanian pilt (“to drip, flow”) pilēt (“to drop, drip”), pildīt (“to fill”).[2]
