Etymology[edit]

First used in H. F. Link's Elementa philosophiæ botanicæ (1824), formed from classical Latin pollin- (pollen) and the suffix -arium (place for).1

  1. (botany) The structure in an orchid flower which becomes attached to an insect during pollination. Includes the pollinia, caudicle, and viscidium.
