Spanish

Etymology

Literally translated, "through the big door", the term comes from bullfighting. The "puerta grande" is the main grandiose door in Madrid' bullring Las Ventas. It is a great honour for a bullfighter to leave through this door after a particularly great performance, especially if he is carried by members of his team or memembers of the public.
