[edit]

Possibly a back-formation from muksa, reinterpreted as a now archaic apheretic form of the infinitive pumuksa, ultimately borrowed from Sanskrit मोक्ष (mokṣa, emancipate). Compare Javanese ꦩꦸꦏ꧀ꦱ (muksa, to vanish).
