Etymology[edit]

From Middle Mongolian [script needed] (qadaɣa), [script needed] (qadaɣala), itself a borrowing from Turkic, compare Old Turkic [script needed] (qadaɣla, to guard, protect), a derivation of Old Turkic [script needed] (qadaɣ) [1]. Possibly ultimately a derivation of Proto-Turkic *kad-, whence also Azerbaijani qayğı (care). Cognate with Turkish kadağa (prohibition), Persian قدغن‎. Compare Georgian ყადაღა (q̇adaɣa), Northern Kurdish qedexe, Turkic borrowings.
