Etymology[edit]
From Classical Persian قلندر (qalandar), possibly a re-borrowing through Arabic of original Persian کلندر (kalandar) "a rough, uncouth man" from Classical Persian کلند (kaland, kuland) "rough, unshaved, unsmoothed".
