Etymology
From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (qonuq)[1]. Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *Kon- (“neighbour;friend; guest”), whence also Azerbaijani qonşu (“neighbour”). Compare Turkish konuk (“guest”), Crimean Tatar qonaq (“meeting room”), Chuvash хӑна (hăna, “guest”).
