Etymology[edit]
From Middle Irish ráma, rám, from Old Irish rámae, from Proto-Celtic *rāmiyos (“oar”), (compare Welsh rhaw, Cornish rêv, Middle Breton reuf (“shovel”)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁reh₁- (“to row”).
