Etymology[edit]

From Old Norse raust, ultimately from a Proto-Germanic derivative of Proto-Indo-European *h₃reyH- (to flow, boil, stream, move).[1] Related to Proto-Germanic *runsiz (river). Cognate with Danish røst.
