From re- + nifler (to irritate, annoy), from the same (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 331: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "gem" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. root as Italian niffo, niffa (snout); related to Low German Niff (nose, mouth, bill), Dutch neb (nose, beak), English neb (nose, beak, face). More at neb.
