Etymology

From German Ribose, formed from Ribonsäure, the first element of which comes from a rearrangement of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] English arabinose.

ribose (plural riboses)

  1. (biochemistry) A naturally occurring pentose sugar, which is a component of the nucleosides and nucleotides that constitute the nucleic acid biopolymer, RNA. It is also found in riboflavin.
