[edit]From Proto-Turkic *saď- (“to think, to consider, to accredit”), from Proto-Turkic *sa- (“to think”).
Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (sa-, “to count, consider, suppose”), Azerbaijani saymaq (“to count, consider”), Chuvash сума (suma, “to count, consider, honor, respect, read”), Turkmen saýmak (“to think, assume, suppose, consider”), Yakut аах (aaq, “to read, count, consider”).
