Etymology[edit]
From Middle English seylecloth, saylclath, seil-cloþ, seil-clæð, from Old English *seġlclāþ, equivalent to sail + cloth. Cognate with West Frisian seilkleed, Dutch zeilkleed, Middle Low German sēgelklêt, sēgelkleit, seilklêt, seilkleit, German Segelkleid.
