From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *sekʷ-. Cognate to Latvian sacīt, Russian сочить (sočit', to look for), German sagen (to say), English say and Latin inquam (to say). Compare sekti (to follow) from e-grade *sekʷ-.
