Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *skunta, either a nasal present of Proto-Indo-European *skeut- or from Proto-Indo-European *sku(n)t-, *ku(n)t- (to shake, rattle), close to Proto-Germanic *skundijaną (to drive, push, compel, rush) (cf. English shunt). Cognate to Middle Irish scothaid (to cut off), Lithuanian skutù (to scrape) and Latin scindō (to tear into parts)[1].
