Etymology

From Proto-Albanian * ̊peri-, from Proto-Indo-European *per- (to bear, lead across, penetrate). Cognate to Ancient Greek πείρω (peírō, to get through, pierce).[3]

Alternatively reconstructed as from Proto-Albanian *eś-per-, from PIE *eǵʰs- (out) + *pi-pér- (to bring out).[4]
