simple function (plural simple functions)

  1. (mathematical analysis) Any complex-valued measurable function whose range is finite.

Usage notes[edit]

Some authors do not require that a simple function be measurable, but only that its domain be measurable. For such authors, the "simple function" defined above would be called a "simple measurable function."
