From Proto-Slavic *skora (“bast, skin”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ker- (“to cut”) whence English carnage, cortex, carrion, corium, scurf and excoriate. Cognate to Umbrian 𐌊𐌀𐌓𐌖 (karu), Latin corium, Sanskrit चर्मन् (cárman).
